Our custom solution bridges the gap between general-purpose AI tools and the needs of domain-specific, context-sensitive users. Built on a modular Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, it delivers precise, citation-backed responses grounded in user-provided documents and prior conversations.

Users interact with the assistant through a custom chat interface. As messages are exchanged, they are stored in a relational database and semantically indexed using PGVector-allowing the assistant not just to remember, but to reason across previous interactions and retrieved information.

To support complex, multi-faceted workflows, the assistant features a project-based interface that enables users to organize domain-specific knowledge and task-oriented conversations. Projects group related conversations and documents, helping users manage evolving workstreams and topic-specific inquiries. Each project has a dedicated dashboard-accessible via the sidebar-that displays its associated documents and conversations. From this dashboard, users can upload or delete documents and create, rename, or remove conversations.

Conversational exchange consists of a user message-or prompt-and the LLM's response. Behind the scenes, the system takes the user's original message and enriches it with supporting material to help the model generate a more accurate and grounded reply. This includes recent messages to maintain coherence, semantically related past exchanges, and excerpts from uploaded documents.

Documents in .pdf, .txt, and .docx formats are parsed, chunked, and embedded using vector representations, then stored with metadata to support efficient semantic retrieval. These embeddings are indexed in a vector database, allowing the assistant to identify and retrieve the most relevant document excerpts at query time.

The enriched prompt is then sent to the selected language model, which returns a tailored response. The system uses LangChain to manage prompt construction, memory integration, and model interaction-supporting a vendor-agnostic deployment strategy.
